You know working with the colts teaches us a lot. I finally got smart and invested in video camera so I can record how I am working with the horses. Not to mention the fact that I can see how chubby I have become. Oh well…
In working with Komet (provided by Ellen and Kristen ) I can see where I could improve on my feel. I was leading him when working at liberty on the round pen which caused him to shift a few times. I need to be more sensitive as to where my body position is.
I can see too that I was not aware of the subtler cue he was giving me. I should have picked up more on his ears and the turn of his head, I could have used that to my advantage.
This is nice show of a horse who does not have to much in regards to handling using the methods I use. You can se him struggle a little bit, trying to use his tricks on me, vs driving with what I was asking for.
Can you hear the chain saw in the background.? Or the guy dropping off hay?
When I was trying to get him to hook on, he was having issues, and I realize that was due to the fact he did not understand how my body was putting pressure trying to give him ease from pressure. He is getting better.
He is bit pushy, wants to walk all over you. That is something we can work on.
He does not know how to follow the pressure from the lead rope, he is learning.
You can see the videos on the tool bar on the right (you tube)
Let er' Buck!
