This is my day....
Riding my colt in the arena, I notice out of the corner of my eye a young rider working on jumps with her "new" horse and twiddle dee, and twiddle dum helping her out.
Horse goes over jump and knocks over rail with hind foot...
Twiddle Dee " You got to hit her with your crop just before you go over!"
Kid tries again, whack with the crop, and the jump falls over
Twiddle Dum " You got to go faster and hit her harder"
Kid tries again, kick kick kick, whack and the horse takes down both poles.
Twiddles " Try holding the rein, kick her, and then whack her!"
Kid tries again, and the horse just plows through the jump...
Enter... Me...
Now at this point, I dont care about that kid, or the silly women sitting on the sidelines... I care about that horse. And I will tell you something, that horse is not getting a fair deal.
Um... either of you ladies the kids trainer?
silence...
Ok, either of you the kids Mom?
One Twiddle raises her hand..
I say, umm.. you know, the horse plowing through the jump, the fourth time, well ya know that might not be such a good idea for a horse to learn... you know disrespecting the jump...
I says, I am not a horse trainer, or even a jump instructor... but I know, that you prob dont want to teach the horse how to do that...
So I ask... Do you have a lesson coming up?
"Oh yeah" Twiddle One says, " On Saturday, a Jumping Lesson".
Well says I, maybe the thing to do is to work on pace.. How many strides can you get between the jump and how to set the horse up to succeed on the jump.
Twiddle Two 'That horse knows how to jump!"
Me, to Twiddle " she may know how to jump, but when the rider gets in her way, she is learning how to avoide the jump"
Gah.
LZO!
