Buck - The Movie?

I wanted to write about the movie “Buck” to highlight some key points from my perspective.

Primarly, that the movie was not really about the horses, or even the people that follow Buck… Which I think is in an interesting tale in itself.

Nor was it really about Buck as it failed ot really show the man. Because in order to understand a Man you need to understand what created him. Understand what surrounds him..

To know in the highlights and lowlights who he is.

They talked only about his Dad, and only about the abuse, but never why they started roping in the first place. They mentioned his Mom ( birth) but not about her, who she was, who her people were, nor was this discussed about the father. You never got a sense of the brother, Smokie.. What their relationship was, how it developed. Once he moved to his foster parents you never get a sense of them.. You really don’t know where he came from… Who he is…

Only the face of who he is today.

We are told he made the jump from trick roping to horse training because????
I never got it.. Was it Ray Hunt that inspired him? Who, what was it..
How did he get hooked.. Would he want to admit it? We never know.

So if it was a story about a man, I still don’t know who that man is. It left me, confused.

If it was a story about the horses, I never got it.. Never got the horse.. You never got down to my feet.

If it was a story about the people that follow Buck…You lost me.. I don’t know who they are, or why they are interested.

It was a meager attempt in my minds eye to tell a story.. A powerful, interesting story.. that is still not told..
