Buck Clinic Day 3 - Orland 05/09/11

Day 3

Well it seems I made it to day 3. Though I have to admit I have not broken my streak yet, and have managed to fall off yet again in a clinic. Now its 3 times in row. Oh well. You try to learn.

Emma was getting troubled so I started to move her around to get her mind working instead of worrying about what was going on with whatever was bothering her. Well I don’t know what happened but suddenly she was sideways and well I was trying to hang on but finally gave up and just landed with a thud on the ground.

Oh well.. Get back on and try again.

I was sequestered by Buck to the childerns side of the arena to do work on my serpentines until I could join the group again…

Oh well I wanted to work with my horse and well we worked.

She was trying to offer up a soft feel now and then and I was trying to notice and get out of my own way to feel her… If she could reach for me, then I could reach for her.

It was working.. By the end of the deal I was able to ride around on a slack rein and work a little with her on my leg. She made me pretty proud.

What did I take away from this clinic. What was it that I was trying to learn.

I was trying to learn how to get down to my horses feet, trying to learn how to get a change with out forcing it. I was learning about how to sense when the horse was no longer escaping and actually working to a soft feel …

I was working to learn about how to work with horses. To get more in tune with the partnership.

Move them into a soft feel at the walk, think about how they would actually do a job doing the stuff you want them to do…

Think about what you can to get your horse centered with you, working with you… reaching for you….
